Flint Hills, Kansas

Konza Prairie Biological Station

Northeastern Kansas, known as the Flint Hills is home to the Tallgrass Prairie, is the largest remaining grasslands in North America. What was once more than 170 million acres, stretching from Canada to Texas, is now only located in Kansas and Oklahoma. The Konza Prairie Biological Station, which is co-owned by Kansas State University and The Nature Conservancy, allows visitors to hike the protected land. Despite what many think, not all parts of Kansas are flat. The Flint Hills feature rolling hills of exposed, naturally occurring limestone that offer a beautiful landscape.

Before you visit, be sure to prepare for your trip. No bikes or pets are allowed and the trails are closed when they are wet or during controlled burns.

They also have goats, bunnies, and parakeets for visitors to enjoy. There’s a store and playground onsite and the family often hosts seasonal events.

Jeff and Michelle recently attended a Strawberry Picking event. Check it out below!
